Happy to see Nick Disabato (author or Cadence & Slang) launch yet another amazing Kickstarter project, a digital and print publication called Distance.

Oakland's Welcome.
I am in the Bay Area developing some startups. I just flew in last night and am staying with my rad brother-in-law at his diggs in Oakland. On my way in he gave me a heads-up to Occupy Oakland. Better said on the NY Times there is some chaos going on.
It makes the chaos of a startup quite simple, there is a lot at stake, but no teargas or rubber bullets.

Thank you for changing everything.
I wrote a post about change today, focused on Beta and where we have been. I had no idea that later in the day the most surprisingly difficult change for me would happen. A personal hero to me, and several others Steve Jobs is no longer here. I don’t write this to immortalize Steve as an innovator or visionary, of which he clearly is, but as someone who has admired him as a man; a man who...

Changes
Some people love it, some people hate it but we all know that constant change is life. You are not alone, at Beta we have been working hard in a rapidly changing economy. If you have followed Beta from the start, or even supported us, you have seen us transition over the last year and a half. For those just tuning in, here is the rundown.
1. Our original goal was to furnish a prototype shop and...

Kickstarter Log Complete.
As most of you know I have been hacking away at a project called “beta” that got funded on Kickstarter in January 2010. Because of my backers Beta Objects exists. With out their support into an idea, this would have just been an idea. Thank you for this.
Today I am switching gears and tying loose ends. I am going to stop posting to this Log for now. I started this tumblr account for...

MAKERFACTORY: MAKERFACTORY, GO! →
From the great folks at makerfactory:
we’re very excited to finally share MAKERFACTORY.com with the world today! this project has been in development for quite some time, financed without a drop of investment capital — just a lot of hard work, late nights, and busy weekends. special thanks to andrew kurtz, ezra spier, and max ogden for their help in transforming the site from a set of HTML...
My good friend Felix + EFFALO (also known for the velosynth) published this new site called MAKERFACTORY for connecting people using rapid fabrication tech: 3D printing, CNC, Laser Cutting. This project is amazing and something to participate in. Check it out!

“MAKERFACTORY is a free service for connecting the emerging network of localized fabrication technologies with people...

Moving the shop public.
As you know I have a top secret shop, where I work out the prototypes and ideas. We also have a sweet studio space. But.. I am going CO-OP and moving the prototype shop / wood shop to a more central location. Opening as a small level of CO-OP. Who would be interested you ask? People with their own tools but not everything they need or any at all.
Selling points:
Full Access to Wood Shop and...

Where is Beta at?
Beta is still here .. it is going through a revamp though, which has put a cramp on two things - the time lapse video - and the launch party. I have sent out everything but those two things. Know that they are in process. If for any reason someone has failed to receive anything - email me NOW!
Updates:
I am rebuilding the website to be more useful to blog from, and release new updates and...

Guerilla Truck Show 2010
I dont quite know what I enjoy more, Neocon and the show they put on or the awesome after parties. Guerilla Truck Show is one of these awesome after parties, completely unassociated with Neocon, but seems to arrive the just in time on Tuesday night every year. Its packed with up and coming furniture designers, makers, and artists.
This year I had to see what Craighton Berman is up to....

MNML + Coalesse Party
MNML put on a fantastic party last night celebrating the launch of a new line of conference furniture with Coalesse. Scott Wilson the founder of MNML had a few pieces of the line on hand letting us all wow them and geek-out. Its a must see if and when you can swing by the Merchandise Mart in Chicago.
As far as Neocon parties go, MNML has done the best two years in a row. Great food, drinks,...

Opening Beta as Co-op?
I have encountered so many people who want to know more about prototyping and taking on some mad shop skills. This is bringing me to gauge the interest of Chicago. So here is your chance…
Are you interested in learning how to use a 3D printer, CNC Router, and other robotic/power tools?
Would you attend workshops to learn new applications and tools?
Would you like to utilize a full wood...

Check the site out. Many many changes are happening. Why? Because things are progressing and moving forward. Lets not forget to thank Caleb for this sick video he is making things happen with Color Factory.
Stamps for the Tshirts.
Just ordered a TON of stamps for the beta objects tshirts. When the stamps come in the tshirts go out… and I will let you know.

How should I deliver the T's to Chicago?
I am thinking of doing something fun and creative for a day or two to deliver all the t-shirts to my supporters in local Chicago. Any ideas?

Time-lapse Video + Party Invites
Here is the thing, its cold. When its cold it messes things up that seem simple, like laying concrete and painting. Generally for the do-it-yourself’er, it is nice to work in temperatures that allow these to cure. The floor and Walls will be on hold until it gets a bit warmer here, which pushes back the time-lapse video and the launch party.
Dont worry.. once things get warmer, you better...

Here is a short time lapse taking my four hour work day down to a few minutes. What you will see is me putting in a few lights + cleaning things up. Keep in mind this will be part of the Time Lapse DVD. Owner Operator [%] is responsible for the music.
Happy 2010
Beta Objects has officially made it into 2010 [thanks to you]. Over the next month planning will take place. There will be shop setup, t-shirts, the first objects, loads of movie clips, and photos all to follow and debut here. Stay tuned.
